How we find our information

For you to trust us, we must be completely transparent in how we obtain the information presented to you. This page has details about our processes and sources.

Candidate Profiles

To avoid bias, these are never written by VoteKnox.org. We source candidates' pictures and descriptions in the following priority order, moving down the list when a source is unavailable or does not exist:

1. 1. Direct Responses: Any candidate on the ballot may submit their own picture and description at any time via the Submit Info page. Additionally, VoteKnox.org has been working on reaching out to candidates via email to encourage 

   2. Campaign Website: Most candidates have websites for their campaign. We take a selection of text from their About section, Platform page, or similar. This is where most profiles come from.

   3. Campaign Social Media: If a candidate does not have a campaign website, we will take a blurb from their social media bio or pinned post, where available.

   4. Third-Party Sources: As a last resort, candidates' responses to journalist questions or similar verified third-party profiles will be used.

Candidate profiles are always cited with the data source.

Other Voter Information

Other information, like polling dates, voting locations, and laws, are taken from a wide variety of sources, which are listed below in Chicago Style citations. Please accept our apologies for the lack of hanging indents; this is due to formatting constraints.
